Summer is a time to relax and have fun, with lots of learning. However, many children do not get proper nutrition during the summer. With a high poverty level, a hectic schedule and many parents who work, children who normally get their meals during the day at school may now lack those meals. Danbury is fortunate to be part of End Hungry Connecticut’s Summer Meals Program. Summer meals meet the federal nutrition guidelines and consist of milk, fruits, vegetables, grains, meat or alternative protein. In Danbury, Sodexo is the local provider of the meals. Offered at many of the Danbury schools and community organizations, children under 18 years of age, including children age birth through age 5, can eat breakfast and lunch for free. Below, I have provided the schedule of feeding sites throughout Danbury. Take advantage of this service for your family, as there are no forms to fill out and it is open to everyone under the age of 18. Hope to see you enjoying a meal at one of the sites.
