The Danbury Athletic Youth Organization (DAYO) has been offering Flag Football to boys and girls in the Greater Danbury area. Flag Football is a non-contact version of football, in which players must remove a flag from the ball carrier to stop play. The teams have a maximum of seven players, and field sizes run to half the football field. The player’s objective is to advance the ball by passing or running the ball past the end-zone line. This year, DAYO offers USA NFL Flag Football to the Greater Danbury area and surrounding towns. There are three divisions. Division 1 is for ages 6 to 8 years old, Division 2 is for ages 9 to 11 years old and Division 3 is for ages 12 to 14 years old. Playing Flag Football also offers the opportunity to learn the game of football and to improve physical conditioning.
Games are played every Sunday, beginning April 30, until the end of June, at the Steve Kaplanis Field next to Broadview Middle School in Danbury. The practices are held at Shelter Rock Elementary School on ONE of the following days: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Your coach will determine the day of the week and the time of the practice. Participants need cleats and shorts. The organization will provide an NFL Flag jersey for players to keep! We will be having in-person sign ups. This is a way that you can ask questions and meet some of the coaches.
