Wait no longer to start bringing fresh and healthy food to your table. Every Saturday from June 22 through October 19, CityCenter Danbury will be hosting a Farmers’ Market at the Danbury Green on National Place from 10 am to 2 pm, except July 20 and September 7

Held by the Danbury Farmers’ Market Community Collaborative (DFMCC), the eleven-year event features live music; nutrition, health and fitness activities; and, of course, fresh food from vendors all over Connecticut.

“On the opening day ceremony, we will be giving out a reusable market bag gift for the first 100 shoppers,” said DFMCC Director/Nutritionist Peggy Zamore, adding, “Live Strong Nutrition programs, at 10:30 am and 12:00 pm, will offer $15.00 incentive coupons for those who attend the program. First come, first served; so come early for a spot.”

With freshly grown produce, shoreline clams, homemade maple syrup, artisan bread, flowers and jewelry, the market is a one-stop shopping destination for all your healthy food needs and more

Many vendors speak Spanish and sell veggies and herbs especially for each ethnic group,” explained Zamore.

Besides shopping for produce and other farm items, educational material and resources will also be available for parents and kids.

According to Zamore, this year, special family/kid days with extra activities for kids will be available on July 13, August 10 and September 14. There will also be free books for children every week, free blood pressure checks on certain daysa flu shot clinic on October 19, and “No limit for the SNAP match – dollar for dollar – whatever someone wants to spend.”

Free downtown trolley rides to the market, or just a ride around the town, will be available, along with bus passes through HARTransit for those who need a ride home.

Almost every week, there will be nutrition/food demos with $15 coupon to spend at the market, and English/Spanish health and fitness information; classes are scheduled throughout the season. More details at the Markets website and FaceBook page at danburyconnecticutfarmersmarket.
